Writing With Our Ancestors

It is said that family history hides in our DNA, that the cells of our body have the imprint of an invisible lineage lodged in our cellular memory, passed from great-grandmother to great-grandchild through the placental bloodline. Those who came before us are still alive inside us, and we will live inside future generations to come. We inherit and pass down family recipes, heirlooms, and stories. We also inherit and pass down our ancestors’ pains, family secrets, and generational traumas. The mystics teach that we are the axis point in the family lineage, and that it is our job to transmute our ancestors' wounds into wisdom. When we heal ourselves, we have an opportunity to heal those who came before us--and mitigate the suffering of those who will come after us.
