Writing With Our Ancestors

It is said that family history hides in our DNA, that the cells of our body have the imprint of an invisible lineage lodged in our cellular memory, passed from great-grandmother to great-grandchild through the placental bloodline. Those who came before us are still alive inside us, and we will live inside future generations to come. We inherit and pass down family recipes, heirlooms, and stories. We also inherit and pass down our ancestors’ pains, family secrets, and generational traumas. The mystics teach that we are the axis point in the family lineage, and that it is our job to transmute our ancestors' wounds into wisdom. When we heal ourselves, we have an opportunity to heal those who came before us--and mitigate the suffering of those who will come after us.

Join Sherry Sidoti-Rego and Jenny Douglas for an intimate Sunday afternoon ceremonial celebration to connect with an ancestor, honor an ancestor, and make space for any messages that your ancestor may be wishing to share with you. Bring a sense of openness and curiosity, a willingness to be present with your fellow attendees, a journal and a pen, and--if possible, but not required--something tangible that connects you to an ancestor to share with the group (be it an old photograph, a letter, a story, a memory).
